The case for curriculum based swimming and water safety education is strong as it enables the participation of children who might not otherwise engage in physical activity such as those from Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD), indigenous or low socio-economic backgrounds. Active Moreland’s renowned YMCA Swimming Lesson schools program offer a range of both practical and theory aquatic programs to ensure children learn water survival skills in a safe and organised environment.
Learn to swim program
Active Moreland aquatic facilities offer 45 minute learn-to-swim programs that focus on the refinement of swimming stroke techniques, safety and survival skills, as well as respect for the water. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for children who have not yet been enrolled in a learn-to-swim program to gain water familiarisation and safety and survival techniques.
Water safety program
We come to you! Active Moreland can send out qualified instructors to teach water safety and awareness through interactive games and question and answer sessions to whole classes at a time. This is an hour long program and can run back-to-back with the instructor visiting as many classes as you choose.
We can also offer a combination of swim and water safety packages email Active Moreland Programs or call your local aquatic and leisure centre to find out more.
Water safety materials
Included in both the learn-to-swim and water safety programs, water safety worksheets are provided to your school which are relevant and specific for each grade level. Each pack will include three worksheets on water safety and survival for every student in the classroom, complete with an answer guide and discussion points for the teacher.
