Mahmood Homaei: From Tehran to Brunswick

Mahmood Homaei: From Tehran to Brunswick

Mahmood standing in his lifeguard uniform by the poolBrunswick Baths would like to extend a very warm welcome to Mahmood Homaei who's recently joined the team. Brunswick Baths' new lifeguard Mahmood used to work in his home town in Tehran, Iran at a  leading aquatic centre as a lifeguard before he had to flee Iran and political repression.

After he fled his country of birth, the Australian government gave Mahmood a temporary visa which allowed him to move to Melbourne. Mahmood contacted lifesaving Victoria and he was pleased to hear they had a Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) program with their Multicultural Unit. Through this program Mahmood was sponsored to complete his first aid and lifeguard courses, after which he spent nearly 4 months volunteering as a lifeguard at Altona Beach.

Following his successful graduation from Lifesaving Victoria's CALD program, Mahmood applied for a position at Brunswick Baths. The centre's Operations Coordinator RJ Houston immediately recognised a potential in Mahmood and thought he would be a great assett to the Brunswick Baths team.

Mahmood is really an inspiration to be around. His motivation and work ethic has humbled us all and his gratitude and zest for life is truly inspirational.

Next time you go for a swim be sure to look out for Mahmood as he makes sure all the swimmers are safe around the water!
